the German impressionism paved the way to the posterior surrealism. Enough prove is the scenery and decoration. Probably its best exponent was (at least in cinematography) Jean Cocteau. I recommend the Orpheus trilogy, specially the first two

Such a classic! The production design and cinematography are so beautiful and it sets such an effectively creepy tone. A must see for all horror and film history buffs.
